4.4 La Verne Quake – Hundreds of QuakeAlert Users Were Warned
For the La Verne earthquake on August 28, 2018 Early Warning Labs had many users beta testing our QuakeAlert Mobile App.
We ran the numbers and the system worked as designed with alerts going out to:
373 users over intensity 2. Avg warning time: 10.5 seconds
80 users over intensity 3. Avg warning time: 5 seconds
Intensity 3 definition per the USGS:
III. Felt quite noticeably by persons indoors, especially on upper floors of buildings. Many people do not recognize it as an earthquake. Standing motor cars may rock slightly. Vibrations similar to the passing of a truck.
Anyone feel that earthquake? Got the alert but this time only had 12 seconds! pic.twitter.com/7J21oPhXhA
